The court has dismissed a child custody suit where Jennifer Read, Chad Read’s widow, was seeking custody of Chad’s children from their mother Christina Read.
A San Antonio judge has been assigned to the cases against Kyle Carruth involving the deadly shooting of Chad Read on Nov. 5, 2021. This happened six days before Carruth filed motions in his defense.
Chad Read’s widow and her attorney will hold a news conference on Thursday, at noon, on the steps of the Lubbock County courthouse, at 904 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas, according to a news release from the law firm.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton confirms he is investigating the shooting death of Chad Read, however, the statement never mentioned Read’s name. The AG says it is a high-profile case that has received nationwide media coverage, which prompted the AG’s office to issue a statement.
In a petition filed on Wednesday, the widow of Chad Read is seeking custody of her late husband’s children from their mother. In the news release from her attorney, they attached a video of the shooting along with the petition.
Recently filed court documents have revealed the man accused of a November 5 deadly shooting in south Lubbock; however, those court records are now sealed and not available to the public.
The Lubbock Police Department has transferred the case files for the November 5 south Lubbock shooting to the Texas Attorney General’s Office to begin their review, after Lubbock County District Attorney's Office recused themselves from the case last week.
